(25 July 2026) Teemu Suninen and Antti Haapala held strongly their lead during Saturday’s leg of the 82nd Rally Poland. Following a spectacular superstage at the Superauto.pl Silesian Stadium, the Finns hold an 8.4-second advantage over the second-placed crew.
Grandstands full of fans, spectacular pyrotechnic effects, and impressive power slides around the barrels – the final Saturday special stage, laid out on the grounds of the Superauto.pl Silesian Stadium, was a fitting climax to an all-day competition.
However, before the crews headed out onto this short, 1.5-kilometer stage, they first fought on technical stages in the south of the voivodeship. The second loop of the event ran smoothly without any disruptions. On the SS-5, Teemu Suninen and Antti Haapala (Škoda Fabia RS Rally2) set the fastest time. Finishing just 0.2 seconds behind them were Mikołaj Marczyk and Szymon Gospodarczyk (Škoda Fabia RS Rally2) and it allowed them to move up from fourth to second position in the overall standings. Andrea Mabellini and Virginia Lenzi (Lancia Ypsilon Rally2) scored the third fastest time (+3.2 s) and dropped off the podium. Jakub Matulka and Daniel Dymurski (Škoda Fabia RS Rally2) – winners of the first pass of this stage – took fifth place this time and held third position overall after the test.
On the Ochaby stage (SS-6), Matulka posted the best time, reclaiming second place overall. Suninen was second (+1.0 s), while Mabellini’s third-fastest time (+2.2 s) allowed him to return to the podium in the standings. On the 19-kilometer Gmina Jasienica stage (SS-7), Mabellini claimed his second stage victory of the rally. The Lancia driver edged out Marczyk (+0.8 s) and Suninen (+3.0 s) on this run and he was promoted to second place in the overall standings. A fourth-place finish for Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Maciek Szczepaniak (Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, +4.7 s) allowed the three-time European champions to climb to fourth position, right behind Marczyk. Matulka’s fifth result on this stage (+5.5 s) meant a drop to third overall for them.
The final stage of the day was won by Matulka, who beat Marczyk by 0.1 s and Mabellini by 0.5 s. However, this result did not change the overall standings of the rally. Heading into Sunday’s stage, Suninen and Haapala remain the leaders. It is worth adding that the Finn is the driver with the most stage practice in the entire field – the European Championship leader has already competed in seven rallies this season, across both FIA ERC and FIA WRC rounds. Mabellini and Lenzi trail him by 8.4 s, while Matulka rounds out the podium with an 8.8 s gap.
Of the seven special stages run so far, Matulka has claimed three stage wins, with Suninen and Mabellini taking two each.
In the ERC3 standings, Michał Chorbiński and Adam Chrzanowski (Renault Clio Rally3) are the leaders, who recorded the fastest times on five special stages. They hold a 9.1-second lead over the second-placed crew – Lucas Zielinski and Ewen Leenhardt (Renault Clio Rally3). The lowest step of the podium was taken by Ville Vatanen and Joonas Ojala (Ford Fiesta Rally3, +11.9 s).
Matulka leads the KIQ Polish Rally Championship classification, holding a 1.8-second advantage over Marczyk. Third position belongs to Jarosław and Marcin Szeja (Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, +25.0 s). The top five is completed by Adrian Rzeźnik and Kamil Kozdroń (Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, +30.9 s), and Adam Sroka with Patryk Kielar (Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, +59,8 s).
The stage at the Superauto.pl Silesian Stadium was the final for the competitors of the Millers Oils Historic Polish Rally Championship (HRSMP). Victory in the 82nd Rally Poland among historic car drivers was claimed by Damian Sawicki and Piotr Sieliło driving a Subaru Impreza GC8. Finishing in second place were Marcin Majcher and Mateusz Adamski (Subaru Legacy RS, +2:15.5 s). The top three was completed by Marcin Gluza and Robert Sęk (Honda Civic, +2:23.8 s).
On Sunday, the competitors will tackle seven special stages. The action will open with the classic Przegibek stage (6.5 km), which returns to the Rally Poland route after 27 years. Following that, drivers will complete two passes each of the Kiczyce (12.1 km), Hażlach (17.45 km), and Silesian Voivodeship (11.9 km) stages. The rally will conclude with the finish ceremony at the Superauto.pl Silesian Stadium at 19:30.
