The leaders: Araujo in FIA ERC, Wróblewski in RSMP

(28.04.2022) In 2022 season ORLEN 78th Rally Poland will be held as fourth round of European Rally Championship (FIA ERC) and third on gravel. It is Armindo Araujo who leads the overall standings of the series. Even though experienced Portuguese driver has as many as 47 WRC and 15 ERC outings under his belt, he has never competed in Rally Poland. Apart from FIA ERC competitors, Polish Rally Championship (RSMP) crews are expected in Mikołajki, as ORLEN 78th Rally Poland count towards RSMP standings. Having won the opening round of Polish Championship, Kacper Wróblewski and Jakub Wróbel top the leaderboard of the national series.

In 2022 season as many as eight rounds will decide who will take the FIA ERC crown. Two of them were already held, both in Portugal. Season-opener - Rally Serras de Fafe - Felgueiras - Cabreira e Boticas 2022 was followed by 56th edition of spectacular Azores Rallye in the middle of Atlantic Ocean.

First round saw Araujo score 28 points for 2nd place overall and 2nd fastest time clocked on Power Stage, introduced in FIA ERC in 2022 season. Only Nil Solans and Marc Marti were faster than Araujo, co-driven by his compatriot Luis Ramalho.

On São Miguel Island Araujo scored points for finishing 5th overall. FIA ERC 2021 runners-up - Efren Llarena and Sara Fernandez took the victory after phenomenal charge on the final stage of the event. Only three points separate Spanish crew from Araujo and Ramalho. However, some changes in FIA ERC standings shall be expected before ORLEN 78th Rally Poland kicks off on 10th of June. There will be a chance to score points before coming to Poland, during tarmac Rally Islas Canarias.

Polish Rally Championship top-scorers are Kacper Wróblewski and Jakub Wróbel, who are top-placed crew after 50th edition of Świdnicki-Krause Rally, Polish tarmac event held around city of Świdnica. ORLEN Team duo managed to score maximum number of points in season-opener, as they were fastest both in overall standings and on Power Stage. Grzegorz Grzyb and Adrian Sadowski hold 2nd place while Swedish crew Tom Kristensson and Andreas Johansson are just behind Grzyb and Sadowski.

Who will come to Mikołajki as RSMP leader? This will decide during 41st Podlaski Rally – 2nd round of Polish Rally Championship. The event makes its comeback to top national rallying series after a 55-year break.

ORLEN 78th Rally Poland is also a round of Motul Polish Historic Rally Championship. Marek Suder and Marcin Kowalik lead the series standings after being the fastest crew in historic car during 50th Świdnicki-Krause Rally. Suder competes behind the wheel of beautiful replica of Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4, which was the last rally car used by multiple Polish Rally Champion Marian Bublewicz. Bublewicz – a 1992 FIA ERC runner-up, died in February 1993, after a crash during first round of Polish championship.
