Kristensson cuts Marczyk’s advantage

(12.06.2022) Kristensson and Johansson managed to reduce the gap between them and rally leaders Marczyk and Gospodarczyk during first three stages of ORLEN 78th Rally Poland leg two. Moreover, Swedish duo extended their lead over third placed Estonians Ken Torn and Kauri Pannas.

Two passes of Mikolajki Max (9,34 km), Swietajno (18,61 km) and Milki (11,17 km) stages are scheduled for Sunday in Polish ERC counter. The latter of these stages proved to be quite tricky for the competitors, as conditions were completely different than during the recce, when rainstorm came over this test.

The final leg of the event began with Marczyk and Llarena clocking identical time through Mikolajki Max test. Estonian Ken Torn finished with third result and dropped to fourth overall, just behind Llarena.

Swietajno, the longest stage of leg two, was won by Kristensson and Johansson (Hyundai i20 R5). It was maiden ERC stage win for Swedish duo. Just 0,3 sec slower went Hungarian crew Csomos and Nagy (Skoda Fabia R5, not competing in ERC). Marczyk and Gospodarczyk were third, 3,5 sec behind Kristensson and Johansson. Llarena struggled with lack of power and lost third overall, after Torn moved up.

On Milki stage Kristensson reduced Marczyk’s advantage, while Torn build up his advantage over Llarena. It was Vaidotas Zala, co-driven by Ilka Minor (Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo), who clocked fastest time through Milki test. Lithuanian driver was 0,5 sec faster than Tempestini/Itu (Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo). Thanks to this result, Romanian crew moved closer to Llarena and Fernandez.

Nil Solans and Marc Marti decided to withdraw from the rally.
