Lukyanuk in the lead before ORLEN 77th Rally Poland showdown

(20.06.2021) ORLEN 77th Rally Poland leaders Aleksey Lukyanuk and Aleksey Arnautow (Citroen C3 Rally2) head to Warsaw, where final stage of the event will be held, with comfortable 17,4 s lead over Mikkelsen and Floene. Russian duo showed mature and careful approach tackling three last gravel stages of 2021 ERC season opener. Top-placed Poles - Marczyk and Gospodarczyk also focused on keeping their position. ORLEN Team crew hold fantastic 3rd overall before Rally Poland 100th Anniversary stage, event’s showdown on the street of Warsaw.

Final loop of stages in ORLEN 77th Rally Poland consists of four special stages and long road section between Mragowo and Warsaw. It began with second passes of Mikolajki Max (9,34 km) and Gmina Mragowo (15,55 km) tests, followed by SS Przasnysz (17,9 km) located halfway between rally HQ and Warsaw. No service break is scheduled after these stages, so rally crews had to be fast, yet careful with their machinery. In case of any damage or breakdown they would have to fix it on their own.

It was Mikkelsen who won SS 11 and 12, cutting as many as 12 seconds from Lukyanuk’s margin. On SS 13 Mikkelsen was 2nd, and reduced the gap by another 5,7 s. Before event’s final test Lukyanuk is 17,4 s ahead of Norwegian driver, which looks like a comfortable gap, considering total length of SS 14. Nearly 2-kilometre-kong route of Rally Poland 100th Anniversary stage runs on the tarmac and cobblestone covered streets of Warsaw. It seems to be almost impossible for Mikkelsen to reduce 17,4 s margin over the course of final test.

Finish ceremony is scheduled for 7PM on the grounds of PGE Narodowy Stadium.
