78th Rally Poland at halfway point of 2022 European Championship

(15.12.2021) FIA World Motor Sport Council published the calendar of 2022 FIA European Rally Championship with 78th Rally Poland as round number four to be held on 10-12th of June. For the 17th consecutive time both service park and rally HQ will be based in Mikolajki. Gravel special stages, with total length of over 200 kms, will be run again through scenic Masurian Lake District. Moreover, 78th Rally Poland is the fourth round of Polish Rally Championship.

- Rally Poland is a classic event, acknowledged among competitors, spectators and media representatives. Demanding special stages in Masurian Lake District always provide spectacular and thrilling rally battles. There are well-known stages as well as brand new tests. As many as 30 percent of total distance of the stages will move to roads which have never been used before in Polish ERC counter. Mikolajki Arena superspecial stage, as well as picturesque town of Mikolajki with start and finish of the rally, do not need any recommendations – said Michal Sikora, President of Polish Motorcycle and Automobile Federation.

- In 2021 season Rally Poland was the last ERC round held in cooperation with Eurosport Events, the promoter of the series. We had an unique occasion to work together with their team during four editions of Rally Poland. We always could count on them and their invaluable help, which is something we are grateful for and today we would like to thank them for that. Now it is time to welcome on board our new partners from WRC Promoter, who added FIA ERC to their portfolio. We used to work together when Rally Poland was held as WRC counter and I am convinced that our rally will benefit from joint activities, especially in the area of promoting this great sporting event – added Michal Sikora.

2022 FIA ERC calendar consists of four gravel and three tarmac events, all of them well-known. Another round is also expected to join the calendar. Changes has been made to scoring system. As previously top 15 crews will be awarded with points for their place in overall standings of the event, while points for each leg will not be given any more.

Power Stage, final test in the rally was introduced into ERC. Five fastes crews will score additional points, 5-4-3-2-1 respectively. Power Stage is known from WRC and is also held in Polish Rally Championship. Running order for the first leg of ERC rounds will be based on retained qualifying stage results.

The promoter of the FIA European Rally Championship has already confirmed the addition of live coverage of ERC special stages to the existing WRC Plus streaming platform http://wrcplus.com/, which has been broadcasting the competition at WRC stages for four years.
