This year not the Mikołajki Circuit, but the town square called Market will be the place to announce the winners of the Rally Poland. All under the watchful eye of the King of Whitefishes, a new sculpture which is the biggest attraction of the main square revitalized this year in Mikołajki.

Winners of the 68th edition of Rally Poland will rise cups on Sunday afternoon, September 25th. Before that they have to overcome more than 800-km route with 13 special stages covering over 230 kilometers. Rally route is similar to previous editions, but it consists of two new elements. First is, of course, the September date of the event, the second is the return of the prize giving  ceremony to Mikołajki main square. The place has just undergone a  restoration, culminating in the unveiling of the new fountain with the sculpture of the King of Withefishes, known from Mikołajki coat of arms.

The final look of the monument has been chosen in a design competition announced by the City Council. The new „King” is 150 centimeters tall and is cast in bronze. It is placed on one- metre high granite stone. The renovation of Mikolajki main square began last year - just after the tourist season ended. It  was part of a large project entitled "Revitalization of the market and the main streets of the city of Mikołajki with the introduction of new features in tourism and recreation."  Car parkings, nearby roads and sidewalks were also renovated.

- The program started last year and is divided into three parts - during the Mikołajki Day we showed new Liberty Square, and after the holidays we will be ready with the 3rd of May Street and Church Square - says Piotr Jakubowski, the mayor of Mikołajki.  – I hope that tourists and residents are happy with the new look of the main square. It is a little less green than before, but it was purposefully designed. Market is an open space serving also commercial purposes, it's not a park - the mayor added.

And at the last weekend of September the first chance for Rally Poland competitors and fans to be impressed by the new look of The Market in Mikołajki.
